Media Coverage of Antimicrobial Resistances in Germany and Switzerland: An Interpretation through the Multiple Streams Framework

  04 November 2024

The article examines newspaper coverage of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Germany and Switzerland from 1999 to 2021 using the Multiple Streams Framework (MSF). It finds that AMR coverage is increasing, albeit non-linearly, and is related to specific events. The most frequently mentioned problems are the general growth of AMR and antibiotic use with animals. Different solutions are prominent in media, but only some actors connect their preferred solution to a problem. National-level scientific and state actors are most prominent in AMR media coverage, potentially acting as entrepreneurs.
